Launching eRehab project in Sheffield Teaching Hospital

We are pleased to announce yet another collaboration with Sheffield Teaching Hospital in England, UK.

Jointly funded by the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS FT, a new pilot study for the rehabilitation of stroke survivors in the community will be live in spring 2020.

The Sheffield Community Stroke Service (CSS) at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, delivers home based rehabilitation and wants to develop a Band 4 Specialist Rehabilitation Assistant role. This new role would enable them to carry out assessment and therapy tasks with patients who have had a mild stroke, whilst being directed in real time by a registered therapist who would have traditionally undertaken the role. Sensory Technologies eShift® will be used to support and enable a workforce transformation, aiming to provide a service that improves the quality, safety and efficiency of care within the stroke pathway.

We are building on years of successful partnership between the NHS, the University of Sheffield and Sensory Technologies UK (ST). In 2014 the NIHR CLAHRC YH began working collaboratively with ST as the role of the CLAHRC YH was to support industry partners in the implementation and evaluation of transformational technologies. During the past 5 years, we have successfully co designed and implemented a new model of nursing for end of life patients at St Luke’s hospice utilising the eShift platform for delegation and direction (Ariss et al 2015, BMC Palliative Care). This new project will be evaluated by a team at the University of Sheffield led by Dr Steven Ariss.
